Thames Plastic Problem

Thames Plastic Problem

New research has shown that the high level of microplastics found in the Thames in London makes it one of  the most polluted rivers in Europe.

Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic (smaller than 5 millimetres) that are often used in beauty products and materials such as glitter.

The pieces of plastic are so small  that, when they end up in rivers and oceans, unsuspecting sea life end up eating them. When we eat some of these fish, we also end up ingesting the plastic!

Apparently, humans eat up to 5 grammes of plastic per week. That’s the same weight as a credit card!
